Hi Reader, Fadi cares for so many family members, and he does everything he can to avoid asking for help. He and his family need our care. What if we could show even a fraction of the generosity to him that he share with the people around him? I've shared before that Fadi and his wife have three beautiful daughters, who he calls their "flowers." But Fadi also supports his elderly parents and his younger sister. The family has long struggled to cover their basic expenses, but in the fall things moved to a crisis point when Ibrahim (Fadi's father) began rapidly declining. Ibrahim has several chronic health conditions which recently worsened. He is now bedridden and needs full-time care from Fadi. Because his health is so fragile, they needed to move from a tent to a small apartment, which of course has been more expensive. Ibrahim needs to visit the doctor two to three times a week, and just the transportation to each visit costs $80. Of course, there are expensive medications, tests, treatments, and supplies he requires on top of that. "There's no room for extravagance in our allowance," Fadi explained recently. "Every penny goes where it belongs, solely to the essentials." The rising food prices caused by closed borders and the war in Iran are making an incredibly difficult situation feel impossible for Fadi. How you can help Fadi's family: 1) Donate directly to Fadi's GoFundMe. (Campaign is in Canadian dollars, but when you click the "donate now" button you can also choose U.S. dollars.)
2) Or you can donate to the Coffees for Gaza Emergency Fund. All donations to the fund through April 29 will go to Fadi.
3) If anyone is able to organize a special fundraiser for Fadi, that would give the family a big boost. Fundraisers can be a simple as emailing a group of friends or having a yard/jumble sale. Many of our artist volunteers have also used their art to fundraise for families. If you are interested in holding a fundraiser for Fadi, just reply to this email. Are you an artist or content creator? Volunteer with us! Coffees for Gaza was started by artivists (artists who create for the purpose of activism) on Instagram. Instagram continues to be the place that new people discover our work and how many people get updates on our families. In the past few months, many of our regular artists and content creators have not been able to create art posts or videos, and this has made it much harder to fundraise for our families. Examples of art people have created for our Instagram channel We would love for you to join our volunteer team! Please reply to this email or direct message us on Instagram if you would be willing to create any of the following:
An update on Abdullah's condition Thank you to everyone who has generously donated to help Abdullah obtain life-saving surgery! His health is extremely fragile and we have been deeply worried about him. While waiting to raise enough money for the heart stent surgery he needed, Abdullah developed an infection that required intensive antibiotic treatment and used a significant amount of the funds raised for the surgery. Last week, Abdullah had an exploratory heart catheterization. Even though he may still need the stent surgery in the future, for now his doctor has advised using medication to treat the problem. While this is good news, the medicine is still quite expensive, costing 700 to 800 GBP per month. He will need the medication for at least three months. Please continue to support Abdullah and his family! Hi Reader, Tahani, Mohammed, and their four children urgently need your support. They have exhausted all their funds and food. As you can see below, a recent storm badly damaged their already battered tent. The streets near their tent regularly collect sewage-infested water, putting them at risk of serious illness. Various family members have already fallen ill several times. Tahani also wants to pass along her gratitude to Coffees for Gaza supporters like you for your past generosity. You...
Hi Reader, On Friday, families across Gaza were able to celebrate Eid al-Fitr for the first time since the genocide began. While all of the 25 families we're in relationship with still face incredibly harsh living conditions, it has been wonderful to see the joy and beauty in their holiday pictures and messages. On behalf of our families, we'd like to share thanks and appreciation for all the emotional and financial support you have offered. Every dollar you've donated, every post or email...
Hi Reader, First I'd like to say THANK YOU to each of you who's made a gift to our new Emergency Fund or signed up for our monthly Family Sponsor Program. Your support of our families means the world to them, both at a practical, financial level and at an emotional one. It's not easy to keep your heart open to the suffering in our world, especially when it seems like those in power care so little about the harm they are causing. I hope you'll take encouragement from this art that Janna Dwyer...
