Family sponsor update

Hi Reader,

It's been a while since we've updated you about how our transition to the Family Sponsor Program is going.

If this is the first time you're hearing of the Family Sponsor Program, these are donors who sign up give $5 a month (or more) to a particular Coffees for Gaza family through the family's fundraising link on Chuffed or GoFundMe.

We are so thankful to the 82 people so far who have signed up to donate approximately 1300 Great British Pounds per month. These family sponsors have been assigned to 11 of our highest need families. Because some people are still signed up for monthly donations through our old Open Collective system, we're still distributing about 2200 GBP per month from Open Collective to families as well. However, that amount is gradually decreasing as more people transition to our new Family Sponsor Program.

Between these two sources, we're distributing less than the monthly 4000 - 5000 GBP we were able to give to families in 2025.

Our families' needs haven't diminished, and it's become harder for them to fundraise as media attention on Gaza fades.

While we have never been able to meet the full needs of the 25 families we're in relationship with, these monthly donations make such a difference to those who receive them. Monthly donations mean that our highest need families have more steady access to food, medical care, and basic necessities (though many still routinely run out of funds.)

Nourhan's family

Fadi's family

Abdullah's family

Family Sponsors have also been lifesavers for families who have emergency medical needs. When Nourhan's little boy needed two emergency surgeries, the monthly gifts she received were a big help. As Abdullah's and Fadi's family have both struggled to support seriously ill family members with complex medical conditions, donations from family sponsors have provided critical support.

Still, the needs of the 11 families who have Family Sponsors assigned to them are far greater than what they're receiving right now. We also have several more families who we'd like to assign sponsors to, but we just don't have enough donors signed up for the program yet.

Here's how you can help:

If you're not already a Family Sponsor, please consider signing up using this form. The cost is as little as 5 units of your country's currency a month. (Or if you're still donating monthly on Open Collective, please make the switch using the form linked above.)

If you're already a Family Sponsor, THANK YOU! ❤️❤️❤️

Congratulations to Sameh and Malak on their engagement!

We were overjoyed to learn that Sameh recently got engaged and we're looking forward to his wedding with Malak! There is a beautiful video on Sameh's Instagram page marking this special moment.

Things have been so incredibly difficult for Sameh's family the past few years. Before the genocide he was a graphic designer, and how he supports a large family including his parents and siblings. His engagement to Malak has brought immense joy to only to the happy couple, but to Sameh's entire family.

Sameh almost never asks us for help, but he would like to be able to put together a small party to mark this joyous occasion. He has already gathered most of the funds he needs, but if you could contribute a gift of any size to his GoFundMe to help the happy couple start their new life together, it will mean so much!

With love and solidarity,

Rebekah Gienapp and the Coffees for Gaza team

Hi Reader, As Coffees for Gaza turns 2 (more on that below), we have a urgent request from Oday and Rawan's family. Their 5 month-old-son Rayan has developed an amoebic parasite due to tainted water. As you know, there is no real sanitation available in Gaza. Rawan and Oday were devastated to learn that Rayan has been infected, because their toddler Yaman also had the same infection as an infant. This is a very dangerous condition and they need to get treatment for Rayan as soon as possible....

Hi Reader, Fadi cares for so many family members, and he does everything he can to avoid asking for help. He and his family need our care. What if we could show even a fraction of the generosity to him that he share with the people around him? I've shared before that Fadi and his wife have three beautiful daughters, who he calls their "flowers." But Fadi also supports his elderly parents and his younger sister. Alaa, Fadi and their three daughters: Danya, Kinda, and Leen The family has long...
