Hi Reader, Thank you for your continued support and solidarity with our families in Gaza! In this newsletter, I have three updates for you:
Nosiba's baby will soon be here & she has no medical care For the past 6 months, Nosiba, her husband Omar, and their three children (Khaled, Mariam, and Lana) have been living in a battered makeshift tent trying to acquire the basic essentials to survive. It is summer in Gaza and living in the tent is unbearably hot. Because there is no sanitation, like almost all families living in tents, they are plagued by rats and insects. Both Mariam and Lana have chronic medical conditions. Khaled was recently hospitalized because of an asthma attack. Nosiba also cares for her parents and for Omar, whose hand is paralyzed because of a broken bone that couldn't be treated properly during the genocide. Nosiba is due to have her baby in September, and she does not have a doctor for prenatal care or for the baby's delivery. It's vital that our community help her prepare for the baby's birth, which will bring many expenses and needs. Nosiba and her family have been through so much; things that few of us can even imagine. They have had to flee violence more than once. In September the building they were living in was bombed, and they escaped mere seconds before the attack. They lost all their belongings, and the children didn't even have shoes on their feet. Understandably, Nosiba's spirits are very low right now. Let's wrap her with support and care. Here's how you can help: Donate any amount to help prepare for the baby Donate directly to Nosiba's campaign (Great British Pounds)
OR Donate to the Coffees for Gaza Emergency Fund (U.S. Dollars). All donations for the next two weeks will be directed to Nosiba's campaign.
An update on baby Rayan: thank you for your generosity! Three weeks ago, we shared that Rawan and Oday's baby Rayan had developed a dangerous parasitic amoeba due to tainted water, and they did not have funds to pay for the medication. Many of you donated, and Rayan's condition is now being treated with an intensive antibiotic regime. We can't thank you enough for your generosity and solidarity. Poor little Rayan is still not feeling well, but is he now receiving medication. When his older brother Yaman had a similar infection last year, it took a couple of months of treatment, and Yaman still occasionally has flare ups. If you are able to continue donating to Oday and Rawan, they will continue to need medicine for Rayan for at least several more weeks. Nour's book is now available for pre-order! We couldn't be more excited about this children's book collaboration between Nour, one of the mothers of our families, and author Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara (best known for her Little People, Big Dreams series.) Under the Olive Moon was written by Nour when her family was still living in a tent. It contains ten of the Palestinian folktales that Nour would tell her children at night to comfort them and to help keep their hearts full of wonder. These beloved stories allowed her to turn their tent into a palace, a garden, or a ship. This beautifully illustrated picture book is best suited for children ages 5 to 8 (and for children at heart!) Under the Olive Moon will be released on October 13th, but you can pre-order the book now. Anyone in the book publishing world can tell you how important pre-orders are to a book's overall success. Please consider pre-ordering a copy for your family or to give to a child you care about. Hi Reader, As Coffees for Gaza turns 2 (more on that below), we have a urgent request from Oday and Rawan's family. Their 5 month-old-son Rayan has developed an amoebic parasite due to tainted water. As you know, there is no real sanitation available in Gaza. Rawan and Oday were devastated to learn that Rayan has been infected, because their toddler Yaman also had the same infection as an infant. This is a very dangerous condition and they need to get treatment for Rayan as soon as possible....
Hi Reader, It's been a while since we've updated you about how our transition to the Family Sponsor Program is going. If this is the first time you're hearing of the Family Sponsor Program, these are donors who sign up give $5 a month (or more) to a particular Coffees for Gaza family through the family's fundraising link on Chuffed or GoFundMe. We are so thankful to the 82 people so far who have signed up to donate approximately 1300 Great British Pounds per month. These family sponsors have...
Hi Reader, Fadi cares for so many family members, and he does everything he can to avoid asking for help. He and his family need our care. What if we could show even a fraction of the generosity to him that he share with the people around him? I've shared before that Fadi and his wife have three beautiful daughters, who he calls their "flowers." But Fadi also supports his elderly parents and his younger sister. Alaa, Fadi and their three daughters: Danya, Kinda, and Leen The family has long...
