Abdullah needs life-saving surgery

Hi Reader,

First I'd like to say THANK YOU to each of you who's made a gift to our new Emergency Fund or signed up for our monthly Family Sponsor Program. Your support of our families means the world to them, both at a practical, financial level and at an emotional one.

It's not easy to keep your heart open to the suffering in our world, especially when it seems like those in power care so little about the harm they are causing. I hope you'll take encouragement from this art that Janna Dwyer recently shared:

Today, I want to bring your attention to two of our families who especially need emergency funds.

Abdullah needs immediate heart surgery

As many of you know Abdullah Ziad's health is extremely fragile, and he has been growing dangerously weak over the past few months. He needs immediate surgery to place a stent in his heart. Abdullah's heart condition is impacted by his diabetes. He can't consistently afford insulin, which has had disastrous effects on his health.

Abdullah needs to raise $4,000 USD as soon as possible, which includes:

  • $1,400 for the heart surgery and post-operation medical expenses
  • $600 for relocation and rent
  • $2,000 for food and medication for Abdullah and the entire family. (One of Abdullah's children also has complex medical conditions.)

You can help by donating directly to Abdullah's Chuffed campaign or by donating to the Coffees for Gaza Emergency Fund.

Anas currently has no funds to care for his siblings and parents

Anas is 23 years old and trained to be an engineer before the genocide began. Now, at such a young age, he supports a large number of younger siblings as well as his parents.

Before the war, Anas and his father had just built a beautiful new home. They hadn't had a chance to move into it before it was heavily damaged by bombings and fire. They lived in a tent for two years.

Now, as you can see in this video Anas posted, they are trying to make their home livable while also sheltering there. This is an incredibly difficult task which involves lots of shoveling rubble, plus more complex repairs.

Anas isn't able to spend much time promoting his family's fundraising campaign online, so he has struggled for the past 2 years to raise enough for their basic needs. Currently, they have exhausted all their funds and need our support to purchase food, basic supplies, and make their home livable.

You can help by donating directly to Anas' fundraiser or by donating to the Coffees for Gaza Emergency Fund.

With love and solidarity,

Rebekah Gienapp and the Coffees for Gaza team

Hi Reader, Our hearts are broken for the people of Iran as the U.S. and Israel rain down bombs on civilians. We grieve the more than 1,000 lives that have been needlessly lost so far, especially the scores of school girls in Minab whose promising young lives were cut short. As you've likely seen in the news, the effects of the assault on Iran are rippling far beyond the country's borders. Our families in Gaza are being impacted in significant ways. While we're still getting reports from...

Hi Reader, Ramadan Kareem to all who are celebrating the holy month of fasting, worship, and generosity! As a Christian I have been thinking about what it means that the Islamic month of Ramadan and the Christian season of Lent began on the same day this year - which has not happened in 126 years. For me it's a reminder of how much we share in common no matter where we live or how we worship. For the 25 families Coffees for Gaza is in relationship with, Ramadan is an incredibly special time....

Hi Reader, If you've been part of the Coffees for Gaza community for a while, you've probably heard us talk about Abdullah Ziad's family. While all 25 of the families we're in relationship with have endured trauma during the genocide, the amount of pain and danger that Abdullah has experienced is hard to wrap our minds and hearts around. Abdullah and his wife Haneen have four young children: Mohammed, Ziad, Omar and Amir. Abdullah has complex health conditions including diabetes that he can...
