Qusay's mother needs emergency surgery

Hi Reader,

We have three updates for you in this edition of the Coffees for Gaza newsletter:

  • Qosay Hani urgently needs to raise $1500 US for his mother's surgery on October 25th
  • Learn how you can donate items to our Peacetober auction
  • A sampling of amazing Peacetober art

Can you help Qosay's mother receive an urgently needed surgery?

Qosay Hani's mother Atab is scheduled for an urgently needed surgery on October 25th, but the surgery can only happen if they raise $1,500 US by then. Otherwise, the surgery will have to be postponed. Atab has six pins in her spine because of a war-related injury that can't be fully treated in Gaza. She has developed an acute infection on two of those spinal pins, and the infection is in danger of becoming septic if she doesn't receive surgery soon. Sepsis is dangerous anywhere, but it is especially hard to treat in Gaza since there's not a functioning medical system.

Qosay used to have an Instagram account with over 30,000 followers. It was shut down abruptly by Meta, and since then he has struggled to raise the funds needed for basic survival.

How you can help:

1) Donations of any amount to Qosay's Chuffed account are incredibly helpful. Because he only has a few days to raise the rest of the funds needed for Atab's surgery, we are asking you to donate directly to his Chuffed, not to our Emergency Fund.

You can donate to Qusay's Chuffed account here. Because this is a time-sensitive situation, we have a few simple instructions for you:

A) In section one, be sure to use the drop down menu to choose the currency you want to give in. The default choice is Australian dollars.

B) In section two, fill in your name and email.

C) In section three (payment details), if you have a PayPal account, we encourage you to choose PayPal as your payment option. That's because PayPal donations reach him the fastest. If you do not have a PayPal account, donating by credit card on Chuffed is still helpful and appreciated.

2) You can also help by liking, commenting on, and sharing this Instagram post about Qosay and Atab so that more people will see it.

Peacetober auction: Donate art or other items and services

Mark your calendars for our 2026 Peacetober auction, which will take place November 9 through 13. This is our largest fundraiser of the year and the only time we are able to send funds to all 25 of our families at the same time. It takes place just in time for families to receive much needed funds for winter clothes, blankets, firewood, and other need supplies for survival.

Some artists donate items they created during Peacetober, but there are so many other things you can donate even if you're not an artist!

Here are some of the items and services people have donated in the past. These are just a starting point, so don't feel limited by these examples!

  • Physical art: prints, greeting cards, screen printed clothing or bags, mugs, knitted or crocheted accessories, tatreez or other stitched items, jewelry, signed books, personal commissions.
  • Digital art: downloads of your Peacetober art, coloring pages, printable cards, custom pet or child portraits, patterns and templates, poetry.
  • Services: portfolio critiques, ask me anything sessions, courses on art methods or software, 1 on 1 lessons via Zoom.
  • Collectible items: vintage dolls or toys, vintage jewelry, first edition books.

What to know about shipping:

If you are donating a physical item, you are responsible for shipping the item to the winning bidder. On the form you can indicate if you are only able to ship the item within your country or certain regions of the world.

Questions about donating auction items? Just reply to this email and ask.
