Welcome baby Salma!

Hi Reader,

We have three pieces of news to share with you in this newsletter:

  • Nosiba's baby has arrived!
  • Tahani's family has suffered a major setback after relocating to what they hoped would be a safer location.
  • Peacetober starts October 1, and there are so many ways you can participate - even if you're not an artist or a crafter.

An air strike ruined Tahani's tent in their new "safer" location

Recently, we asked you to help Tahani's family move to a safer location, farther away from the yellow line. The last update I shared with you included the good news that they were setting up their tent in the new place, but needed funds to construct the simplest of bathrooms.

We're very sorry to have to share the awful news that one week ago in this location they hoped would be safer, an airstrike damaged Tahani's tent so badly that it can no longer be inhabited. Tahani, her husband, and four children are very worried about their situation because it won't be long until winter weather sets in.

They need to raise approximately $1,000 US for a tent and the essential materials used to secure it. Their move used up the funds that so many of you had generously donated.

Anything that you can chip in, whether it's $10 or $100 or something in between, will help Tahani and her family start again. You can donate directly to Tahani's GoFundMe here. (This is the fastest way to get funds to her.)

Tahani's campaign is in Swedish Krona. You can use a currency converter like this one to figure out how much to donate, or use the helpful chart below.

If you prefer, you can also donate to the Coffees for Gaza Emergency Fund. We allocate these funds every few weeks to whichever of our urgent needs families has the greatest need and the most difficulty raising funds on their own.

Welcome baby Salma!

Thank you to everyone who donated to Nosiba's campaign in the past few months, helping her obtain much needed medical care as she prepared for her birth.

"Nosiba and her husband, along with their children Khaled, Maryam, and Lana are so happy to introduce you to baby Salma! Artist and CFG friend Valeria Fogato shared this meaningful tribute. She's also offering a special fundraiser to provide support for Salma:

Nosiba’s family welcomes baby Salma! She is so lovely, isn’t she? But, please, just whisper your uh! and oh! of admiration because her loving siblings Khaled, Maryam and Lana don’t want you to wake her up!

To love and to honor life is resistance, and our families are teaching us in how many ways this is true. What we can do is stand by their side supporting them in going through these horrible times. Nosiba and her family need our support more than ever.

A week before the birth, Nosiba had to be treated for anemia at the hospital. Since malnourishment is so prevalent, especially for mothers of newborns, she will very likely need to buy baby formula to supplement Salma's nutritional needs. So, they just had to cover the medical expenses for the birth and will now need all things for the baby (besides formula, nappies, blankets for her crib, clothes for the upcoming season…) as well as the essentials for the entire family’s survival."

Everyone who contributes £20 (about $26 USD) or more to Nosiba's campaign can request a personalized version of the welcome baby art that Valeria created in this Instagram post. It's perfect for the next baby shower you're invited to! To request your art, please comment BABYSALMA on the Instagram post and Valeria will message you.

How to participate in Peacetober (whether or not you're an artist!)

On October 1, Coffees for Gaza's 3rd annual Peacetober artivism challenge will begin, and we can't wait!

This is our biggest community event of the year, when our visibility on Instagram is at its height and our follow-up auction raises enough to be able to distribute funds to all 25 of our families at the same time.

We need your help to make this year a success in raising both awareness and funds for our families. As Peacetober coordinator Inda Ahmad Zahri says, "our art is a reminder that we are all connected in this world. That compassion matters. That we will not forget, nor stay silent."

Here are the various ways you can make this our best Peacetober yet!

1) If you are an artist, crafter, or writer, create something in response to our daily Peacetober prompts. Respond to one prompt, a handful, or all 31 if you like! When you post your art on Instagram, be sure to include the hashtag #peacetober2026 so that our community can find it. If you'd like, you can also add @coffeesforgaza as a collaborator on your post. (Find the daily prompts here.)

2) Amplify artists' Peacetober posts by liking them, leaving comments, and/or sharing them to your Instagram stories. This helps even more people see the posts, introducing new folks to our families and the Coffees for Gaza community. You can find the posts by going to Coffees for Gaza's Instagram page, or searching for the hashtag #peacetober2026.

3) If you're willing to volunteer behind the scenes with our Peacetober auction, please respond to this email. Volunteers are needed primarily in late October to mid November and complete tasks like data entry, adapting templates in Canva, and sending emails matching auction winners and donors.

4) It's never too early to think about whether you might like to donate an item to our auction. Many of the donations are Peacetober art pieces, but other types of donations are absolutely welcome! Art or crafts that are not Peacetober themed, signed books for adults or kids, donations of services or "ask me anything" sessions, printables, and many other items have done well in past auctions. We'll share more about this option in October.

With love and solidarity,

Rebekah Gienapp and the Coffees for Gaza team
